Dunnage is the term used to define scrap pieces or off-cut pieces of scrap wood.  It is common terminology amongst carpentry and building and construction industries. Dunnage is also used to support loads and prop tools and materials up off the ground or to support or to safe keep materials when they are being shipped and freighted.
